Pennsylvania: Ban Barbaric Pigeon Shoots
- by: Alicia Graef
- recipient: Governor Tom Corbett, Pennsylvania Legislature
After two decades of fighting to stop cruel pigeon shoots in Pennsylvania, animal advocates stepping up to support a bill that would finally ban them for good.
During these shoots, pigeons are launched out of boxes and shot at close range by participants. Sadly, by some estimates, the majority of the birds used in these shoots are only wounded and may be inhumanely killed by those involved or may escape into nearby areas where they suffer for prolonged periods before eventually dying.
Footage taken at these events by animal advocacy organizations show just how unquestionably cruel and pointless these events are and how much needless suffering they cause to the birds who are used by these so called "hunters."
Please sign the petition urging Pennsylvania lawmakers to support legislation that would end these events for good.
As someone who is concerned with animal welfare, I was thrilled to learn that Pennsylvania is finally moving forward with legislation (H.B. 1750) that would ban live pigeon shoots.
While these events clearly promote cruelty to animals in violation of state laws, they still take place and draw participants whose own states have shut these twisted events down.

I sincerely hope you will not cave to pressure from special interest groups and take a stand for animal welfare by passing this historic piece of legislation, which is something the majority of Pennsylvania residents support.
