Stop Lion Trophy Hunting

  • by: Chris Burley

Zimbabwe has banned trophy hunting outside Hwange National Park - this is great progress but not a full ban on lion hunting. American trophy hunters can still get permits to hunt lions outside different parks in Zimbabwe, or even outside Hwange if they get approval from the park director.

Sign this petition to demand that Zimbabwe stop all lion trophy hunting. No more permits should be issued to hunt this imperiled species!

Since 1975, the number of African lions has declined by as much as 80 to 90 percent.

Please take action to honor Zimbabwe's fallen lions and protect their future. Urge Zimbabwe's president to permanently ban all big-game trophy hunting of lions and the export of lions or lion parts.

President Mugabe, As someone who admires your country's amazing wildlife, I strongly urge you to permanently ban big-game trophy hunting of lions in any part of Zimbabwe and outlaw the export of lions or lion parts, except for conservation purposes. [Your personal comment here] Zimbabwe's lions are a national treasure. I hope you will do all you can to protect their future. Sincerely, [Your name]
Update #19 years ago
Fantastic news! Jericho, the brother of Cecil the slain lion, is alive. Early reports Saturday indicated that he had been killed by a poacher. Unfortunately, this has never been just about Jericho or Cecil. Far too many lions are still being killed. Please share this petition on Facebook to help stop the killing.
