Tell The Department of Justice: Stop The Bayer-Monsanto Megamerger
Despite mounting evidence of the dangerous impacts neonicotinoid pesticides have on bees, Bayer AG continues to produce these and other harmful pesticides, devastating bee colonies and helping push their populations to dangerously low levels.
At the same time, Monsanto continues to sell Roundup products, including seeds and sprays, packed with a toxic glyphosate herbicide linked to dramatic drops in monarch butterfly populations and other negative health and environmental impacts.
Now, these two bad guys have agreed to a $66 billion megamerger, creating one enormous threat to our pollinators.
But before any deal can go through, the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division must approve the merger, giving us a chance to stop this nightmare before it begins.
To: The Department of Justice
A Bayer-Monsanto merger would create the world's largest agribusiness, responsible for nearly 30% of the world's seeds and 25% of its pesticides. This megacorporation could not only devastate dwindling populations of pollinators like bees and butterflies, but would also reduce competition and innovation in global markets.
Pollinators supply one-third of the food produced in North America, including nearly 100 varieties of fruits and vegetables, yet these two companies continue to produce pesticides and herbicides that jeopardize the health of our pollinators and the future of our food supply, even as evidence continues to mount about their danger.
As a consumer of these products and an American shopper, I strongly urge the Department's Anti-Trust Division to reject this deal, protecting the prosperity of American agriculture and the health and safety of our pollinators.
