Tell Governor Walker to Let Craft Beer Thrive

Wisconsin governor Scott Walker certainly hasn't made many friends in the last few months. But hidden among the other controversial issues in his proposed budget is a provision that would cripple Wisconsin's growing craft breweries in favor of letting one of the world's largest beer makers thrive.

The provision, which was sold to Wisconsin legislators by corporate giant MillerCoors, would make it illegal for microbreweries to market their own product directly to consumers, instead forcing them to use an expensive middleman. Craft brewers say that the restrictions effectively prohibit any new microbreweries from opening in the state of Wisconsin.

If such government control over local brewers seems incompatible with Governor Walker's commitment to small businesses, don't be fooled. MillerCoors donated $22,675 to his campaign to ensure their success.

Tell Governor Walker that Wisconsin's craft brewers should be supported, not paralyzed.
Dear Governor Walker,

I am highly disappointed by the news of your concession to brewer giant MillerCoors regarding the treatment of Wisconsin's craft brewers. The provision included in your new bill would effectively stop any new growth from Wisconsin's currently thriving local brewers.

As someone who has pledged to support small businesses, you have a responsibility to stand behind Wisconsin's small local brewers. Don't let the greed of corporations overshadow your duty as a small-government advocate.

Sincerely,
