Urge Coles To Say No To Battery Cage Eggs!
Australian supermarket chain Coles proudly announced that they will stop selling eggs from battery cages in their store brands. However, they failed to mention that the vast majority of the eggs they stock and sell are from companies that source their eggs from battery cages.
On battery cage facilities, millions of birds are kept in extreme close confinement for their entire egg laying lives and often pass along high concentrations of Salmonella through their eggs. People consuming these eggs, especially when improperly cooked or consumed raw, are at high risk of becoming very ill with salmonellosis.
Large-scale production facilities are extremely polluting due to the large amount of toxic chicken faeces and high concentrations of ammonia they generate. In short, battery cage eggs are bad for hens, humans and the environment.
Urge Coles Supermarkets to extend their commitment by banning all battery cage egg brands from their stores.
Dear [decision maker],
I applaud you for committing to ban battery cage eggs from your store brands. Now, I call on you to take your commitment further by banning all battery cage egg brands from your stores.
