Tell Fish and Wildlife: It's NOT OK to Kill Endangered Wolves!

The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) recently granted Mexican Wolves endangered species status, but they're still letting ranchers and pet owners harass and kill them.

FWS added a loophole that would allow ranchers and pet owners to kill any Mexican wolf in the act of biting, wounding or killing livestock or dogs, and to shoot at and throw objects at wolves to scare them away.

In the early 1970s, Mexican wolves were hunted to near-extinction. The FWS' new loophole would enable hunters to purchase small dogs as bait for wolves, and use this as an excuse to kill them. This loophole gives hunters too much leeway to harm wolves and dogs alike.

Please sign the petition to urge FWS to remove the loopholes in their provision that would allow hunters to kill endangered wolves.

We, the undersigned, support your decision to add Mexican wolves to the endangered species list. Unfortunately, we understand that you are still allowing ranchers and pet owners to harass and kill them under certain circumstances.

As you know, a loophole would allow ranchers and pet owners to kill any Mexican wolf in the act of biting, wounding or killing livestock or dogs, and to shoot at and throw objects at wolves to scare them away.

In the early 1970s, Mexican wolves were hunted to near-extinction. Your new loophole would enable hunters to purchase small dogs as bait for wolves, and use this as an excuse to kill them. This loophole gives hunters too much leeway to harm wolves and dogs alike, which runs counter to your goal of establishing a stable Mexican wolf population.

We respectfully urge you to remove the loopholes in your provision that would allow hunters to kill endangered wolves. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
