Reduce Single-Use Plastic Waste in Cleveland Heights Restaurants

This petition is in support of Cleveland Heights Climate Action & Resilience Plan (CARP) -Strategy 3.2: Reduce Disposable Use and Plastic Waste Pollution Action: Encourage Restaurants to Adopt an "Upon Request" Policy for Plastic Utensils

Restaurants in the United States are responsible for approximately 78% of all disposable packaging waste.

Implementing an "upon request" single-use plastic reduction strategy in restaurants involves providing items like straws, utensils, and condiment packets only when customers specifically ask for them. This approach:

  • Reduces unnecessary plastic consumption and demand.
  • Lowers costs for businesses.
  • Encourages safer, more sustainable dining practices.
  • Accommodates customer needs effectively.

By signing this petition, you will support Cleveland Heights restaurants in transitioning to an "upon request" policy in alignment with CARP Strategy 3.2. Our objective is to gather at least 2000 signatures by July 31, 2025.
