A Louisiana Man Used a Machete to Punish an Innocent Dog

When deputies from the Sheriff's Office in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana were called to respond to alleged animal abuse at a local home, they may not have known just how shocking the details really were.

Apparently, a man at the residence had been breaking up a dog fight by disciplining one of the dogs with a machete.

But that was just the beginning. There were multiple animals at the residence, and they were in horrific shape.

Apparently, a dog fight had broken out at the home which involved one dog attacking another. This is already a huge red flag when it comes to the owners and their ability to correctly and safely keep multiple animals. If one of these dogs was aggressive or dog-reactive, why was it allowed around other animals? What was being done to train this dog or deescalate its behavior to keep both it and the other dogs around it safe?

Well, what the owner decided to do was likely the worst idea imaginable -- he pulled out a machete and used it to discipline the attacking dog. Let us be clear: no level of aggression from an animal warrants this type of violence towards it. Dog training must be built on compassion, risk-mitigation, and positive reinforcement to be truly effective and humane. This man attacking a dog with a machete may very well have been a pattern of violence that plagued these animals and possibly made their behaviors worse.

The incident with the machete was not the only thing deputies had to deal with. They also had to remove several dogs that were starving and injured, clear signs of neglect and abuse. It sounds like a true house of horrors for these dogs.

Clearly, the people who were responsible for these dogs abused that responsibility. That's why we're asking for the responding authorities to recommend a total, lifetime ban on animal ownership so no other animals are ever put through this again. Sign the petition if you agree!
