I live in a rural area that is part of the Miami Erie Canal heritage. Most of the reservoirs for the old Canal are toxic now from algae formed through farm run off.
I didn't realize what a horrible thing the Concentrated Animal Feed Operations (CAFO) have become until researching how to protect the water from farm runoff. The risks outweigh any possible benefit from the CAFO farms other than a slightly cheaper (inferior) product.
This petition seeks to stop McCarty Dairy from Kansas, building a massive CAFO in NW Ohio.
It is already a distressed area from the overbuilding of CAFOs. But now McCarty, Vantilburg Excavating (a local company), and Dannon Yogurt would like to see a new CAFO that will dwarf those.
4,500 head of milk cows never to feel the sun and graze.
We should treat cows with the same honor and respect that we treat dogs and horses. Why are puppy mills illegal, but extreme confinement of cows and calves is not? Think about it your next glass of milk...or Yogurt.
