Lands' End: Gloria Steinem is an Icon, and Your Apology Offends me

A recent Lands' End catalog featured an interview with feminist icon Gloria Steinem, who has been a champion for women's rights for decades. Steinem was interviewed by the company's CEO as a part of a series that profiles people "who have made a difference in both their respective industries and the world at large."

Shortly after some angry anti-choice comments on their facebook page and an article in an anti-choice publication, Lands' End pulled the interview from their website and apologized in a statement, which said: "We understand that some of our customers were offended by the inclusion of an interview in a recent catalog with Gloria Steinem on her quest for women’s equality. We thought it was a good idea and we heard from our customers that, for different reasons, it wasn't." They subsequently pulled from their website the opportunity for customers to donate to the Fund for Women's Equality -- a partnership they had committed to for a year.

The fact that as a company Lands' End would choose to profile a feminist hero and then so quickly cave to a few anti-choice customers is a disgrace. It is not only insulting to their customer base, but it is hugely insulting to Gloria Steinem herself.

As a long-time Lands' End customer, I am extremely disappointed that they would capitulate in response to complaints from a vocal minority of anti-choice activists.

Sign this petition demanding that Lands' End grow a backbone and reinstate their interview with Gloria Steinem and the donation option back to their site.
