For those of you who visit or live in Mexico and travel with a pet, your ability to do so has now been dramatically changed. The US airlines have all changed their in cabin pet travel policy, citing a "Mexican Law" that forbids all in cabin pets from flying into Mexico. All pets must now travel as cargo.
Through extensive research, no such "law" has been discovered, only an older pervision that states that there is no domestic in cabin pet travel within the country of Mexico. This should not affect international travel, yet the US airlines have taken this and decided to make it their new policy.
I believe this is an attempt at increasing fare revenues as the cargo fees are twice what the in cabin fees were. And the danger that this poses to the animals is severe. Smaller animals, those dogs and cats that had previously been able to travel in cabin, will no longer be allowed to do so, and the smaller animals do not fair as well as the larger animals, who have always had to travel as cargo. The death rate of traveling pets will increase, along with the profits of the airlines. Plus, there are cargo travel restrictions in place at certain times of the year due to the temperature in parts of the US, making it impossible altogether for some to get to Mexico at all with the animal family member.
If the pet is allowed in the country of Mexico, then it should not matter where their "seat" was on the airplane. Another way for the airlines to increase their fees to the traveling public, only this time it will be at the "paws" of their most vulnerable passengers, the animals. Some will die, that is a fact, all in an attempt to get more money
