United Airlines, Don't Ship Animals for Research
Every year, thousands of non-human primates suffer from the effects of being torn from their family groups in the wild, being kept in industrialized breeding facilities and getting shipped on long grueling journeys in the cargo holds of commercial airplanes only to wind up as test subjects in cruel and unnecessary experiments.
Although United Airlines doesn't perpetuate this cruelty by shipping animals for research and experimentation, the company now has to reconsider its stance due to a merger with Continental and is getting pressure to keep the flow of animals coming from the biomedical research industry.
Please sign the petition urging United Airlines to take a stand against this cruelty by announcing an official policy against transporting any animals destined for research facilities.
As someone who is concerned about animal welfare, I'm writing to encourage you to continue to take a stand against shipping animals destined for research facilities by making it your official policy.
Thousands of non-human primates suffer from the effects of not only being cruelly torn from their family groups in the wild and languishing in breeding facilities, but also from the adverse physical and psychological effects of transportation itself. The ones who survive are further abused in cruel and unnecessary experiments.
It is unacceptable that any animal should suffer this way. All airlines have the opportunity to stop perpetuating this cruelty and many have already adopted policies that do so.
I sincerely hope that United Airlines will firmly set its policies against transporting any animals intended for research. I will not otherwise use your airline for traveling and will encourage others to do the same.
