As part of a lighthearted Thanksgiving tradition, the U.S. President "pardons" a turkey. But not all turkeys are so lucky. Animal advocacy group Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) found that the White House's turkey supplier Jaindl Farms keeps their turkeys in inhumane, crowded conditions
In an undercover investigation that took place over several months, DxE filmed turkeys that seemed to have trouble moving due to cramped conditions. Birds were seen fighting each other for space, and were seen with mutilated beaks and other injuries and illnesses.
Jaindl Farms says on its website that they sent two Grand Champion turkeys to the White House every year since 1962. Though President Obama has not personally eaten the turkeys (he sends them to charity), the website's claim adds much prestige to the Jaindl Farms name in linking the supplier to the White House.
Please sign the petition to urge the White House to stand against animal abuse at Jaindl Farms and all other inhumane turkey suppliers. Urge them to choose a humane supplier for their annual Thanksgiving festivities.
I am concerned that one of the White House's turkey suppliers, Jaindl Farms, has been caught treating its animals inhumanely. I believe this behavior goes against President Obama's values, and encourage the White House to seek a supplier that takes proper care of its birds.
