SAVE OUR HISTORIC WATER TOWER at Heyford Park, in the parish of Upper Heyford OXFORDSHIRE

  • by: Sharon Keen
  • recipient: BOVIS HOMES, DORCHESTER LIVING AND CHERWELL DISTRICT COUNCIL

Used by birds of prey for roosting, as well as being used by smaller birds and bats, the Water Tower in the parish of Upper Heyford, called Heyford Park, which is near Bicester Oxfordshire is within a conservation area. Formerly  an active USAF / RAF Base until 1995  - but is scheduled to be demolished for housing. This air base played a very important role in 2 World wars, fighting to keep the freedom we all enjoy today. Then later it continued to give all peace of mind, knowing we were being protected  .

The Water Tower is of local Historic value in Oxfordshire andu it can be seen for miles around. It was built, we think  in the 1920's when the site was a USAF/RAF military base.

There are many ways in which this iconic tower could be put to use: a viewing platform, nest site, a vintage aeroplane depicting its importance during and after the war and cold war, stargazing as there is minimal light pollution, and a safe haven for wildlife.

Please sign the petition to save Oxford Water Tower - if enough people sign, Cherwell District Council might say 'no' to Bovis Homes  or Dorchester Living demolishing the tower.

We respectfully request to enter into discussions so as to find alternatives to the proposed demolition of this iconic Water Tower

Today, I have discovered that no wildlife surveys have been done near the Water Tower , nor has it been considered as a worthwhile landmark , although the Heritage people state it is a local landmark . So I have requested a wildlife survey to be undertaken AND that the Water Tower be listed as a local Historical Landmark. Please keep getting this petition signed and shared , thank you for your support
