Over the past few weeks, you and over 23,000 other activists have stood up to President Obama's offshore drilling proposal and told him you won't sacrifice the future of the oceans for a compromised climate change bill. Thank you!

The climate bill should be a blueprint for how we are going to reduce our dependence on dirty fuels, not a giveaway to polluters. But key Senators, such as bill co-author Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), have publicly announced their intention to include new offshore drilling in the bill.
Expanded offshore drilling threatens marine habitats and contributes to carbon dioxide emissions. Clean energy alternatives, like offshore wind, provide three times as many jobs as traditional fossil fuel production, with the added benefit of a smaller impact on our environment.

Including offshore drilling in climate change legislation is not only a political compromise %u2013 it is compromising the future health of our oceans.
On the heels of President Obama%u2019s recent proposal to expand offshore oil drilling, the Senate is seriously considering using the climate bill to increase offshore drilling even further into currently protected areas. Expanding offshore drilling increases threats to marine habitats and creatures and does nothing to curb emissions; in fact, it increases pollutants in our atmosphere and oceans.
Tell your Senators TODAY that you will not let them sacrifice the oceans in the name of climate change.

Whether to expand drilling or not may seem like a tough decision, but the smart and clear choice is to create the jobs and energy we need without generating even more carbon dioxide than we already are. Since renewable energy creates three times more jobs than fossil fuel production, the only reasonable choice is to put the ocean to safe and clean use to generate offshore wind power, rather than expanding harmful offshore drilling into sensitive marine communities.
I urge you to make the safest and most economically sound decision %u2013 one that creates jobs and does not pander to Big Oil. While it may be a tough political decision, it will clearly be the right decision for our future.
