The Twala Trust Animal Sanctuary

Dear All

The support and compassion showed by hundreds of people during this devastating time is what sustains us. We are so grateful to you all for your passionate and heartfelt response to our eviction from Bally Vaughan on Wednesday, and your concern for the animals we had to leave behind.

There is not a single moment that our animal family is not in our minds. We will NEVER give up on them and we are doing absolutely everything in our power to right the many wrongs, not just for our beloved animals, but for our staff who were treated so appallingly during the eviction process.
Becky Mwatupa, who was rushed to Shamva Hospital after she went into labour after having to remove her own furniture from her house in the 25 minutes given to us to vacate, lost a great deal of blood and spent two days in hospital. She has given birth to a baby girl, and is recovering at home.

We would like to reiterate that we left a large amount of food at the Sanctuary for the animals, as well as the medication necessary for the elderly and sick animals. There was, however, no effort made by the new management, despite attempts by Sarah and Collin, to establish the many and varied, and extremely costly, needs of the many rescued animals that we cared for for eight years.

These are the simple facts. There are many animals at the Sanctuary who need specialised care. We cannot say whether they are receiving it or not. We had to resort to our legal counsel to demand that medication be given to certain animals. It is now up to the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, and the animal welfare organisations such as ZNSPCA and VAWS to monitor the situation as we cannot get onto the property.

We will do our best to update you as information comes to us, but please, if you have concerns for the welfare of the animals tell these organisations - they have the power to help the animals.
PLEASE remember that the work done at Bally Vaughan, the hundreds of animals saved and rehabilitated and given a second chance, was motivated by love and hope and determination, and we dont want that to be lost in the maelstrom of emotions that we are all experiencing now. We are ALL fighting for the animals, so let's do that as a united and determined and inspired front.

Love and thanks to you all
