Ban Octopus Farming in Alaska

  • by: Amanda Fox
  • recipient: Alaska State Senators and Representatives

Octopus farming is harmful to the planet because it would contribute excessive waste to the waterways, and therefore increase instances of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) which lead to major fish kills and contaminated water. Octopus can not be fed on by catch and would not benefit the local crabbing industry, and would further decimate local crab populations causing major impact to Alaska consumers. We petition the Alaska state legislature to implement a proactive ban on commercial octopus farms.
