The Acorn Woodpeckers in the Northern CA. retirement community of Rossmoor have been a problem for years. The birds are drilling holes to store their acorns in the homes that are backed up to Oak Woodland. Unable to solve the problem they have been issued a depredation license to kill 50 birds. This will only increase the problem with these highly social bird groups. We want to develop a sustainable solution for both the birds and the homeowners.
PLEASE HELP US STOP THE KILLING
Dear Mr. Friesen and HOA members, We the undersigned do not believe that the killing of Acorn Woodpeckers will solve the problem. The experts with over 30 years of experience in studying Acorn Woodpeckers state this will only increase the problem. We would like to see the problem resolved more humanely with replacement of the faulty building materials and alternative granaries installed.Thank you for your attention and regard for this petition.Sincerely,Diana Granados, Chair Mt. Diablo Audubon Society's Acorn Woodpecker Task Committee
