Strip Monsanto of Nobel Prize For Food

  • by: Michael McTernan
  • recipient: Mr. John Ruan III, Chairman, The World Food Prize

The Nobel Prize for Food has awarded the Monsanto its annual prize. The group claims that Monsanto has played a positive role in international food production. The prize World Food Prize is worth $250,000 and is given for "improving the quality, quantity and availability of food". The award was specifically given for the corporations work in developing genetically modified foods.

This is disgraceful. GMO foods have just been rejected globally by consumers and farmers. American farmers have found themselves trapped in Monsanto’s proprietary seed system and many have lost family farmers after being aggressively pursued by Monsanto lawyers.

Mexico recently announced a nationwide ban on GMO corn. GMO's are not more productive or nutritious than traditional seeds. They are often package with toxic poisons such as round-up, and many studies show Monsanto's efforts are increasing the use of, and reliance upon, toxic chemicals.

The World Food Prize needs to strip this award from Monsanto as it just doesn't qualify for it on the most basic criteria.

Dear Mr Ruan,

We the undersigned demand you strip Monsanto of the world Food Prize NOW!

This corporation has ruined the lives of thousands of farmers around the world. And they have done this solely for the sake of privatizing our food supply.

They have offered NOTHING to sustainable farming and awarding them this prize is a joke of the evilest kind.

Thank you for your attention.
