AWE-SOME Airport Wooded Ecosystem - Save Old Growth Make Everlasting

The county is planning to harvest the 57 acre forest property next to the Little River Airport.  We are asking that a core area containing a concentration of old growth trees about 3 - 5 acres - be set aside and not entered.  This would serve both to protect the old growth and as a destination point for a recreational hiking trail.

I posted this online petition because I love the format.  Signers had the option to write comments and many did.  The value of this area is invaluable to the elderly and those with medical conditions due to its flat topography.  Most substantial redwood stands are difficult for some to reach.  The potential trail and old growth stand would be low maintenance hike on the body.  Having had two brain surgeries, numerous medical procedures, hundreds of seizures this would be a area I could enjoy.
