Require Forest Rangers to Receive Training for Understanding Dog Behavior

Dear Forest Service: 
While we understand the need for our forest rangers to remain safe and feel comfortable doing their jobs, we believe that many rangers are utilizing lethal force on companion animals when it is not necessary and when the rangers have other options, such as tasers or mace. 

To enable officers to understand and effectively assess a threat, we ask that you incorporate an educational program that will help officers identify true threats versus postuing behavior. We also ask that you educate officers who are armed on the best way to handle a threat within state and national forests.

To date, many dogs have been shot and killed by rangers and police officers. Senate Bill 226, the "Don't Shoot My Dog" bill, was recently passed unopposed through the House. Please include forest rangers in this Bill.
