Join in the fight to preserve our nation's heritage and honor our grandfathers' bravery. Sign below to demand that the Reidsville City Council restore our beloved monument!
Earlier this year the 100+ year old Confederate monument downtown Reidsville was struck by a vehicle and broken. The Reidsville City Council is threatening to not restore and return it to its proper place in downtown and in our hearts.
We the undersigned strongly urge Reidsville City Council to RESTORE OUR MONUMENT! This is not simply an attack on southern heritage but on our national heritage. Do not dishonor our (Black, White, Hispanic, and Jewish) Confederate grandfathers who bled upon the soil that we call "the home of the brave." The monument is a constant reminder for all cultures and our posterity of not only their service and valor but also of the gravity of the cost this nation has paid in sons for not finding a peaceful resolution to demands of its constituents. At what more expedient time than now, should our nation be reminded of what political division and strife can bring? Yet, some seek to remove the lessons that history can teach and the landmarks that teach them. No matter which side one's sympathies would have lied during our nation's costly war, culture one claims, or race one is categorized as, the history of this nation from which we may glean volumes of wisdom demands to be preserved. For those that would yet stubbornly sacrifice the honor of our grandfathers (Black, White, Hispanic, and Jewish) as well as lessons taught by history upon some mangled altar of perceived political correctness, below are a number of quotes to stimulate your education:
"If I thought this war was to abolish slavery, I would resign my commission and offer my sword to the other side." - Ulysses S. Grant
"So far from engaging in a war to perpetuate slavery, I am rejoiced that slavery is abolished. I believe it will be greatly for the interest of the South. So fully am I satisfied of this that I would have cheerfully lost all that I have lost by the war, and have suffered all that I have suffered to have this object attained." - Robert E. Lee
"My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or destroy slavery." - Abraham Lincoln
"I am not now, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social or political equality of the white and black races." - Abraham Lincoln
'There must be the position of superior and inferior, and I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race." - Abraham Lincoln
“Any people, anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable, a most sacred right, a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world.” - Abraham Lincoln
