Nordstrom Must Drop Donna Karan for Saying Victims of Harvey Weinstein's Sexual Assault Were Asking for It

  • recipient: Nordstrom, Inc
A New York Times investigation last week chronicled a long history of sexual assault and harassment allegations against film producer Harvey Weinstein. Actresses including Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow say Weinstein made unwanted advances toward them, luring them into private spaces, then trying to initiate massages, touch them inappropriately, take off his clothes or offering them explicit work-for-sex deals.

Paltrow says he made an advance on her when she was just 22.

Three women say Weinstein raped them.

Weinstein has paid settlements to many, including former employees, over three decades up to 2015. This week, his entertainment company fired him over the allegations.

But he's found an ally in designer Donna Karan, who told the Daily Mail that women may be "asking for it by presenting all the sensuality and all the sexuality."

"I think we have to look at ourselves," Karan said. "Obviously, the treatment of women all over the world is something that has always had to be identified. Certainly in the country of Haiti where I work, in Africa, in the developing world, it's been a hard time for women. To see it here in our own country is very difficult, but I also think how do we display ourselves? How do we present ourselves as women? What are we asking? Are we asking for it by presenting all the sensuality and all the sexuality?"
