Support SB 810: The California Universal Healthcare Act
On April 27, the Senate Health Committee of the California State Legislature is scheduled to hear the single payer bill, SB 810. Senator Mark Leno, SB 810%u2019s sponsor, re-introduced the bill in February 2011.
SB 810 successfully passed both the State Senate and the Assembly during Arnold Schwarzenegger%u2019s tenure as governor, but on the third try last year, the bill got stalled in the Assembly.
Governor Jerry Brown and our state representatives need to hear from all of us that every Californian deserves equal access to quality, affordable medical care. They need to know that we are sick and tired of insurance companies taking our hard-earned money just to satisfy their greed. They must know that no one should be allowed to profit from people who are sick. We must tell them that the federal health reform law is not good enough. We must flood the offices of Governor Brown and our lawmakers with a clear message: Pass SB 810 NOW!
We the undersigned urge the Legislature and the Governor to vote "Yes" and enact Senate Bill 810 (Leno) to provide comprehensive, high quality health care for all Californians.
This landmark legislation establishes a modern universal health care system to cover every California resident with comprehensive benefits for life, building upon the well-tested principles of our popular Medicare program that American seniors have relied on for decades. SB 810 provides universal care without increasing overall health care spending in California.
-One health insurance plan (single payer) that covers every California resident.
-High quality care and comprehensive benefits, and choice of your own personal doctor.
-Affordable for individuals, families and businesses.
