If Montana wolves didn't have enough bad news, where officials recently lifted kill quotas and lengthened the hunting season, now they have also legalized trapping.
Hunting and trapping may actually lead wolves to kill more elk and deer- not less. When under heavy persecution, wolves respond by producing more pups- meaning more mouths to feed- and more food the wolf must hunt. Younger wolves, inexperienced at hunting, are more likely to take livestock.
Trapping is cruel, barbaric and uncalled for. Such inhumane methods are archaic ways to manage wildlife and should not be included in wolf management programs. Traps are a slow, torturous death, for wolfs, and any other unsuspecting animal that may happen upon them.
We ask Montana to ban the practice of killing wolves by trapping.
