Help encourage eBay to ban the sale of Great White Shark teeth.
The top predator of the oceans, the Great White Shark, is on the endangered species list and facing a rapid human-driven extinction. Sharks world wide play a critical roll in maintaining the balance of ecosystems which we all depend upon. Shark populations have been wiped out over the past few decades primarily due to the brutal, wasteful, and unsustainable practice of finning. Great White Sharks have another commodity which make them even bigger targets -- irrational media driven fear creates a market for their teeth as pieces of jewelry. We would expect that a reputable company like eBay wouldn't stand for the sale of elephant tusks, or the trophy of any other endangered animal, just as we would expect eBay to ban the sale of White Shark teeth. No offense to elephants, but they have coincidentally been responsible for more human deaths than the White Shark. I just checked eBay today (3-30-2011) for non-fossilized White Shark teeth and got 11 pages of matches! Many venders will claim to have found the teeth, which although possible is not verifiable and opens the market for destructive poaching. Mr. John Donahoe, please stop condoning and profiting from this mindless killing that threatens our ocean legacy. As the CEO of eBay, make it your business to defend the reputation of your business and set an example to others. Ban the sale of White Shark Teeth IMMEDIATELY! Thank you.
