Last year, millions of children across the country were lifted out of poverty thanks to the expanded Child Tax Credit, which was passed in July 2021 as part of the American Rescue Plan.
For months, families received much needed funds to cover expenses and put food on the table. But at the end of the year, the Child Tax Credit expired – and there were 3.7 million more children in poverty in January 2022 compared to December 2021.
With Democrats in control of both chambers of Congress for only a few more weeks, we need them to bring back the expanded Child Tax Credit and make it permanent so families have the support they need.
