CLEAN Launches Environmental Justice Petition to help concerned citizens fight against industrial pollutants that are associated with childhood leukemia.

CLEAN needs your signature to demand that the Environmental Protection Agency, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and the City of Houston immediately enforce the reduction of benzene, 1, 3-butadiene and other carcinogenic emissions.

According to the January 19, 2007 issue of the Houston Chronicle, a recent study found that children living within 2 miles of the Houston Ship Channel have a 56 percent higher risk of contracting acute lymphocytic leukemia when compared to children living more than 10 miles from the channel. The citizens of the Manchester neighborhood, in particular, are surrounded by chemical plants and the Houston Ship Channel. They have gone too long living with polluted air and within a polluted community.

Help protect the children in this area from getting sick like 9 year old Valentin Marroquin, featured on the front page of the same Chronicle issue.

CLEAN’s mission is to inform and educate citizens about environmental abuses so that they will take action to protect their children, future generations and endangered species.
