Světoznámý fotograf Antonín Kratochvíl byl obviněn, že sexuálně obtěžoval kolegyně fotografky. Ačkoliv prohlásil, že se obvinění nezakládají na pravdě, byl okamžitě svou agenturou VII suspendován. Je vláčen médii. Lidé, kteří ho znají, však tvrdí, že stojí za ním. Proč?
Jeho studentky, kolegyně, lidé, kteří s ním pracovali a kteří ho znají, tvrdí, že Antonín Kratochvíl není člověk, který by páchal násilí na ženách. Nikdy to neměl zapotřebí. Procesy diskreditace umělců a veřejných osob máme stále čerstvě v paměti. My v Česku máme stále ještě v živé paměti lidové soudy, procesy a křivdy vykonávané v dobách totality. V USA takové zkušenosti chybí, a proto bohužel nevidí nebezpečí, které společnosti hrozí, pokud bude soudit bez důkazů. Kdokoliv bude potřebovat někoho sesadit z jeho pozice, přijde se sexuálním obtěžováním. Z dobrého a šlechetného nápadu #metoo se stalo vzpomínání na možné křivdy z daleké minulosti, bez možnosti obhajoby protistrany. Obviněn je muž a ten je také společností rychle odsouzen. Protože je muž.
Antonín Kratochvíl je celoživotní bojovník za svobodu. Riskoval holý život, aby utekl ze socialistického lágru jménem Československo, prošel si cizineckou legií, kde mu mina rozervala břicho. Byl sám uprchlíkem bez práv a budoucnosti. Přes to všechno dokázal uspět v New Yorku a stal se světově uznávaným fotografem. Přinášel unikátní svědectví o konfliktech, kde riskoval nejen život, ale i psychické zdraví. Pro většinu z nás je pouhá představa války děsivá, ale někdo, kdo ji dokumentuje, ji má vrytou do paměti stále. Afghánistán, Jugoslávie, Rwanda, Čad anebo Irák. Získal čtyři ceny World Press Photo. Pravda a právo pro něj byly vždycky vším. Když mu nedali v USA šanci mluvit otevřeně o válce v Iráku v médiích, vydal o tom alespoň knihu. Jako fotograf časopisu Vogue byl vyslán nafotit předávání cen Oscar, které zdokumentoval ze zákulisí tak, aby svět viděl skutečnou tvář této události. Dostal zákaz účastnit se dalších ročníků…
Celoživotní úsilí, snaha a práce nemůže být svévolně ničena na základě nepodložených tvrzení. Relativizace práva a pravdy je krok směrem k bezpráví. Pokud chceme někoho obvinit a víme, že to pro něj bude mít závažné důsledky, je potřeba mít tato obvinění podložená. A reagovat ihned, nikoliv po několika letech. Chceme žít ve slušné společnosti, která nebude tolerovat odsudky bez důkazů.

The world-renowned photographer Antonin Kratochvil was accused of sexually harassing his colleagues. Despite declaring that the accusations are not based on fact, his membership was immediately suspended by the agency VII, where he is a founding member. Kratochvil is dragged through the media. However, people that know him, support him. Why?
His female students, female colleagues and other people that have worked with him and that know him stand by the fact that Antonin Kratochvil is not the type of person that would harass women. He never did. The processes of discreditation of artists and public people is still etched in our memory, something totalitarian socialism was very good at doing. We in the Czech Republic know and still vividly remember what people's courts, processes and wrongdoings in the name of a greater good can do. In the USA people lack such experience and thus take freedom for granted and do not take injustice seriously. People fail to see the dangers that creep if we are to give judgement without proof. Anyone that would like to do wrong to anyone else, from envy, jealousy or self-interest, can come with the claims of sexual harassment. The good and noble idea of #metoo has become something that it shouldn't have. A man is accused and our society is in a great rush to rule the judgement, without the chance of fair trial. Simply because he is a man.
Antonin Kratochvil is a life-long freedom fighter. He risked his life to escape the socialist prison named Czechoslovakia. Went through the Foreign legion, where a land mine ripped him open. He himself was a refugee without rights and without a future. Despite all this he managed to succeed in New York and become a world known photographer. He brought us unique accounts about conflicts, where he risked not only his life, but also his psychological health. For most of us the thought of war is terrifying, but someone who documents it has it carved in his memory forever. Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Chad or Iraq. Antonin Kratochvil has received the World Press Photo award four times. Truth and justice always were everything to him and when the media in the USA didn't allow him to talk freely about the war in Iraq, he published his own book about it. As the photographer for Vogue he was sent out to document the Oscar ceremony, he did so but from the backstage, for the world to see the real face of the event. For that he got a ban from further attending.
Life-long effort and work cannot be arbitrarily destroyed based on no evidence. The relativization of justice and of the truth is a step towards injustice and lawlessness. If accusations that can destroy a career or life are to be made, they must be based on fact and must be made immediately, not after a number of years. We want to live in a fair society that will stand for the presumption of innocence.
