Sign today to help urge the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to scind its approvals for Bisphenol-A (BPA) in adhesives and coatings and to set strict limits on its use in plastics that contact food.
Many people believe that BPA is no longer a problem—but it's all around us. BPA can leach into our food during processing and packaging from things we use every day, like canned foods, drinks, and hard plastic storage containers.
Scientists warn that we are currently being exposed to BPA levels that are hundreds of times greater than what's considered safe. Even at very low levels of exposure, BPA can disrupt our immune system and hormones, damage our lungs, harm reproduction, increase the risk of breast cancer, and impair learning and memory. The latest research shows that girls exposed to BPA during fetal development are more likely to develop asthma when they reach school age.
In May 2022, FDA filed a petition from environmental health advocacy groups asking the agency to review new data on the safety of BPA. It's more than two years now—well past the response deadline set by law—but there's been no change. Meanwhile, the European Commission has proposed regulation to ban BPA in most food-contact materials.
We need your help to keep our families safe from harmful chemicals like BPA. Please tell Congress you want FDA to take action on toxic BPA .
