This Florida Couple Left Their Helpless Dog Locked in a 100-Degree Truck So They Could Go to the Beach

A couple in Florida recently decided to go for a beach day just south of Daytona Beach -- nothing out of the ordinary for a fun summer activity. But something was absolutely out of the ordinary: this couple decided to abandon their own dog in a burning hot car, parked directly in the sun, while they went off and amused themselves.

Thankfully, a passerby noticed the large brown dog panting in the passenger seat of the U-Haul truck the couple had been driving and called the police. When officers arrived, they discovered the dog baking in the sun coming through the truck's windshield.

They reported it was about 86 degrees outside that day, meaning the inside of the vehicle was approximately 100 degrees -- and the dog had already been there for an hour. Officers could hear the poor dog panting and struggling from the small crack that had been left in the window, and they quickly poured water through to try to give it some relief.

Thankfully, the dog was safely taken from the truck and is now in the safety and care of a local society. But who knows what would have happened to this dog had it not been noticed in time.

While this couple both face charges for their horrific abandonment of their pet, the punishments only come to a fine or jail time. But clearly, they have no regard or understanding for animals' feelings or needs. That's why their behavior should be met with a proportionate punishment: a lifetime ban on animal ownership.
