Tell Maryland Legislators to Say No to HB 113/SB 584

Lawmakers in Annapolis will be considering misguided legislation (HB 113/SB 584) that would eliminate the cap on noneconomic damages. If passed, this bill could increase verdicts that get passed down to consumers and businesses and lead to higher insurance rates for Maryland policyholders like you.

Help us call on state lawmakers to reject this unnecessary legislation and help keep insurance rates down across the state. Please review and send your message today.

Dear [elected official],

We can't risk higher insurance premiums for consumers or economic burdens that chase businesses out of Maryland. That's why I urge you to vote NO (HB 113/SB 584) on eliminating the cap for non-economic damages.

Hardworking Marylanders can't afford higher costs, but experts like the Chamber of Commerce warn that's exactly what eliminating the cap on non-economic damages may lead to because of Maryland's expansive tort laws.

Increased liability could raise the cost of doing business for industries like builders, truckers, and delivery drivers. That could mean ripple effects for consumers – with things like housing and food increasing in cost.

Increased legal fees and gamesmanship from lawyers seeking to exploit higher and higher damage caps could also create administrative burdens for our already strained judicial system.

Please protect the consumers and businesses in your district and across the state. Vote NO on eliminating the cap for non-economic damages.
