Tell Congress: Protect America's Great Places

The Great Lakes are truly remarkable — containing 20% of the world's surface freshwater, and providing drinking water, recreation and inspiration to tens of millions of people each year. But the health of the lakes is diminishing and funding for the critical program that can help is in danger of being slashed.

To protect the health of the Great Lakes, we must protect the land that surrounds them. Places like Apostle Islands National Lakeshore featuring miles of Wisconsin shoreline and 21 islands in Lake Superior. This mystifying place full of breathtaking cliffs and sea caves, waterfalls and beaches is facing threats from increasing development, pollution and climate change.

The Land and Water Conservation Fund is essential for places like Apostle Islands National Lakeshore to protect habitat, preserve coastlines and help keep Lake Superior clean. And urgent conservation work is at risk each day that it is underfunded.

Call on Congress today to fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund right away. We must protect America's natural treasures, from the Great Lakes and beyond.

With threats to nature rapidly increasing, it is especially critical to fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) as soon as possible. We cannot afford to put essential conservation programs in jeopardy.


LWCF is one of America's most important and successful conservation programs, benefiting every state in the nation. It has helped provide clean water, conserve natural resources, increase recreation opportunities and support communities for 50 years. 

The vital conservation work it supports is at risk every day LWCF is not fully funded. Plus, increased funding will not cost taxpayers a penny because it's paid for with drilling revenues from oil and gas companies.
