Another Mountain Lion Dead Trying to Navigate Human Traffic. Demand a Wildlife Crossing Over This Major, Deadly Highway!

The 405 is a massive freeway in Los Angeles, and one that is sadly often a site of death and violence for wild animals. It divides the metropolitan area, leaving animals who need to travel from one section to another totally helpless and at the mercy of dangerously fast vehicles.

Multiple mountain lions have been killed trying to cross the 405. Just recently, on July 4th, one more mountain lion was struck and killed as it tried to reach safety.

LA must invest in and construct a wildlife crossing to resume traveling between various habitats they need to reach - habitats that are currently cut off by the 405 highway. Sign the petition!

Cities are highly disorienting to wild animals, who used to know these plains, hills, and valleys as their home - only to find it reconfigured beyond recognition into human roads and buildings. Their natural routes wind up fractured, with animals unable to make sense of the chaos or find their way between the regions they need to visit.

In 2022, animal lovers were ecstatic to learn that LA had invested in constructing one of the world's largest wildlife crossings over another major highway, the 10-lane 101, to help wildlife safely move around their habitat. It will be covered in foliage and vegetation to help attract wildlife and encourage them to use this route. This is a huge success that will undoubtedly protect animals for years to come.

The 101 wildlife crossing is due to be completed in two years. When it is finished, LA must double down on this success and use the momentum to begin construction on the next round - a wildlife crossing over the 405! Sign the petition if you agree!
