Every day, massive amounts of plastic flow into our natural environment, equating to over a dump truck of waste entering our oceans every minute. Plastic-related pollution has a significant impact on our environment, and it can negatively affect our communities and their health.
We need strong federal policy solutions, including the passage of bipartisan legislation, to drive needed changes in the ways we use, recycle, and dispose of plastic so that it stops ending up in nature. Ask your Representative to support these bills this year.
Dear Representative,
Congress has several opportunities to address the urgent challenge of plastic pollution. Policymakers need to give this issue the attention and resources it deserves by advancing policies to prioritize plastic recycling, reuse, and reduction. As your constituent, I ask you cosponsor and support advancing these bills this year:
- Recycling and Composting Accountability Act (RCAA): This bipartisan and bicameral bill directs the EPA to collect additional data on recycling and report on its findings as well as to conduct research that could inform a national composting strategy. Led by Sens. Carper (DE), Capito (WV), and Boozman (AR) and Reps. Neguse (CO), Burchett (TN), and Foster (IL).
- Recycling Infrastructure and Accessibility Act (RIAA): This bipartisan and bicameral bill would create an EPA pilot program to build recycling infrastructure projects in areas that currently lack them. If enacted, this bill would help reduce plastic pollution in rural and underserved communities by making recycling and reuse more convenient and accessible. Led by Sens. Capito (WV), Boozman (AR) and Carper (DE) and Reps. Miller-Meeks (IA) and Sherrill (NJ).
