Support photojournalists who expose animal suffering

We often look at animals through the lens of wildlife and conservation photography. However, a newer genre is emerging: animal photojournalism. Animal photojournalists investigate, memorialize, and expose the experiences of animals who are otherwise underrepresented in photography – those we eat, wear, and use for entertainment, research, tradition, and work.

Animals used for human purposes are often hidden from view, both physically and metaphorically. Similar to conflict photographers, these photojournalists document the systemic violence against animals in the hopes of informing the public and creating visual catalysts for change.

Animal photojournalists provide compelling visuals to the public so that industries can be held accountable for the hundreds of billions of animals confined and killed each year. To capture these urgent stories, they venture into industrial farms, slaughterhouses, laboratories, wet markets, and natural disasters with their cameras, putting them at physical, financial, and psychological risk.

In response to animal photojournalists, activists, and whistleblowers exposing these industries, lobbyists have successfully convinced some governments to adopt "ag-gag" laws that criminalize the documentation of animal use. These unjust laws keep animal suffering in the shadows and violate the public's right to know what's happening behind closed doors.

Animal photojournalists deserve our support for the critical work they do on behalf of the sentient beings with whom we share this planet.

Sign if you agree: If we can't see these animals, we can't end their suffering. I support the photojournalists who investigate and expose the experiences of the animals we exploit for human purposes.
