Include Gay Man's Husband in Mother's Obituary

Barry Giles and John Gambill are married and have been together for over 30 years. So when Barry's mother died, her obituary said, "Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Barry Giles and his husband, John Gambill of Dallas." Yet, The Olton Enterprise, a Dallas newspaper left John out of the obituary, effectively erasing him.

Sign if you think it was wrong of The Olton Enterprise to alter the obituary based on publisher Philip Hamilton's personal, bigotted beliefs and want the newspaper to republish the full obituary.

Essentially, Philip Hamilton is literally denying reality because he doesn't like it. In defense of the decision, he said, "It is my religious conviction that a male cannot have a husband. It is also my belief that to publish anything contrary to God's Word on this issue would be to publish something in the newspaper that is not true."

John considered Brenda a second mother and is reasonably upset to have been erased from her obituary. He and Barry are married. They have been together 31 years. For a newspaper to just disregard this fact is discriminatory and hurtful, and we can't accept that.

Please sign on if you want Philip Hamilton to keep his personal beliefs out of this and publish the full obituary as it was submitted.
