Help Protect Koalas: Demand Climate Action Now
Have you seen this video of a koala playing with a butterfly recently?
Koalas are one of just ten species worldwide recognized by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as "highly vulnerable" to climate change.
In the summer of 2008-2009, Australia experienced a brutal series of heat waves. Rural residents found koalas drinking from their swimming pools, or at the base of trees, dehydrated and unable to climb.
You may also recall Sam the Koala, who went viral in a 2009 video showing a firefighter giving her water after her home forest was destroyed by the Black Sunday Bushfires.
As our planet continues to heat up, we'll see more droughts and more habitat-destroying bushfire impacting koalas.
But there is hope - the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a national plan to limit dangerous climate pollution from power plants in the United States. But your voice is needed to fight back against dirty energy forces that are fighting this progress.
Please sign on in support for the EPA's climate standards today. When enough of us come together to demand climate action from our leaders, we can ensure that koalas will be protected from the detrimental effects of climate change.
