Thank Kraft For Their Rainbow Oreo!
Kraft Foods, one of the country's largest snack food companies, recently took a stand on behalf of LGBT Americans. By posting a photo of a "rainbow Oreo" on its Facebook page to celebrate LGBT Pride Month, Kraft established itself as a company willing to act as a visible ally to the LGBT movement.
The image, which was captioned "Proudly support love," received over 150,000 likes in a few days. Kraft representatives maintained that the image was a "fun reflection of Kraft's values," but not every Facebook commenter was pleased. Many vowed to boycott Kraft products because of what they deemed "anti-family sentiment."
It might seem odd to get this worked up over a cookie. But at a time when many gay couples cannot legally marry or adopt children, visible solidarity from such a large corporation is nothing to take lightly.
Show the boycotters that Kraft has supporters, too! Tell Kraft: thanks for celebrating Pride Month in such a colorful way!
I'm writing to thank you for the "Rainbow Oreo" image you put on your Facebook page in honor of Pride Month.
Too often, companies bow down to the fear of retribution instead of expressing what could be deemed as "liberal" values. As is shown by the negative comments on your page, some Kraft consumers are uncomfortable with the idea of expressing solidarity with LGBT Americans. I'm writing to speak against those commenters: I won't be boycotting Oreos. Rather, I'd like to thank you for making a pro-LGBT statement.
Thank you for your time, and I hope to see similar creativity and social consciousness from you in the future.
