Urge your members of Congress to pass legislation to protect America's outdoors!
As our nation continues to recover from the coronavirus pandemic and economic turbulence, now more than ever the American public is turning to public lands and waters for solace. Yet our landscapes continue to be threatened by logging, drilling, mining, and other harmful development. It's important that we call on Congress to protect existing public lands and, in so doing, protect local communities that depend on these places for their economic survival.
For years, local communities have been working with their Members of Congress to conserve threatened landscapes. There is broad support for these efforts from Native American Tribes, veterans, business owners, local officials, scientists, the travel and tourism sector, outdoor recreationists, and hunters and anglers. The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed legislation that would conserve wildlands and wild rivers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Virginia and Washington. Communities in Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, and Oregon are also asking for Congress to protect nearby lands and rivers. These measures include protections for iconic places like the Grand Canyon, the Central Rocky Mountains, and the rugged wildlands of the Owyhee.
In addition to ecological and economic benefits, conserving these places will preserve public access, provide health benefits, safeguard clean water sources, and protect cultural resources.
Now, the 117th Congress has an opportunity to build on this momentum and move these initiatives across the finish line.
Please act today and ask your members of Congress to protect public lands and rivers!
