Stop the Violence -- Defend Women Worldwide
Violence against women is pervasive. Worldwide from the most to the least developed countries, too many women and girls are abused sexually, physically, psychologically and economically.
In too many countries, honor killings and female genital mutilation are tolerated and even expected cultural practices. Even the most basic forms of abuse aren't universally recognized: In at least 52 countries, marital rape is not a crime.
The International Violence Against Women Act (I-VAWA) would make ending violence against women a foreign policy priority across U.S. assistance programs. It would help protect victims, prosecute perpetrators and empower women and communities worldwide to rise above violence.
The last session of Congress already failed to pass the first I-VAWA. Now, this session is nearing a close still without taking action on this critical human rights issue. Our country needs to take action. Tell congressional foreign affairs leaders to pass the I-VAWA.
Dear [Decision Maker],
The first International Violence Against Women Act failed to pass before the end of the last session of Congress. Please make sure to pass this important legislation before the end of the 111th Congress.

Too many women around the world are abused physically, sexually, psychologically and economically. It not only irrevocably damages the lives of these women, but also keeps them poor and powerless -- depriving them of an education and the means to support themselves.
This issue is too important to delay. Please work to pass the International Violence Against Women Act before the end of this Congress.
