Save the Great Barrier Reef from Surging Coal Exports
Right now, our beautiful Great Barrier Reef is under threat from the reckless expansion of the coal industry.
Environment Minister Tony Burke is reviewing applications to build huge new coal shipment terminals on the edge of the Reef. If these expansions go ahead, the effects could be devastating.
Climate change is putting the Reef in peril and the jobs of tens of thousands of tourism operators in Queensland in jeopardy. What's more, the Reef could become a superhighway for some 10,000 coal ships every year.
These impacts have even led the UN World Heritage Committee to consider declaring the Reef officially "in danger."
Decisions made at this point will be felt for generations to come. Collective action from thousands of concerned Australians is what we need right now to keep the Reef safe for future generations. Please add your voice today.
Please do not approve any new coast developments that place the Great Barrier Reef at risk.
