In November of 2011 there were 166 chickens in & around the Fair Oaks Village,CA. In December there were 101 ILLEGALLY ABANDONED CHICKENS for a total of 267 birds. In January 2012, 138 ROOSTERS went MISSING. (food and/or cockfigthing) Currently there is 178 Roosters and ONLY 5 HENS in the Village The Chicken has been a symbol of Fair Oaks,CA for about 30 years, .. Everything in Fair Oaks has a Chicken on it. Business cards, logos, phone books, etc. These chickens have been in PEOPLE MAGAZINE. Fair Oaks is NATIONALLY FAMOUS for these Chickens.........Yet..... .Fair Oaks takes no "ownership" of these birds. NEVER HAS ONE PENNY GONE TO THE CARE & MAINTENANCE OF THESE CHICKENS. These birds are "dubbed" FERAL, so no one has to take responsibility for what's ACTUALLY going on.....WHICH IS...............people thinking it is an acceptable practice to abandon &/OR take these chickens whenever they feel like it. It disrupts the entire flock. & for every Rooster DUMPED, the pecking order can be deadly.(they have to fight every Rooster in the flock) I have lived in Fair Oaks for 36 years & just moved into the Village in August if 2011. Appauled & Disgusted are the nicest words I can find. Fair Oaks has turned a blind eye & basically "condone" this illegal behavior. I am here to say THAT IT'S OVER!!! IT IS UNACCCEPTABLE PRACTICE. PLEASE HELP. PLEASE HELP. PLEASE HELP & SIGN THIS PETITION SO THE CITY CAN START EDUCATING THE PUBLIC OF THESE ILLEGAL PRACTICES......& yes, The Board of Supervisors, Sac. Co. neighborhood services & the Fair Oaks Village Enhancement group all tell me "If I want signs posted....its up to me to do it...So HERE I AM.... THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION.
