We the undersigned strongly oppose KMUN/KTCB's daily diet of NPR's News programs, including "All Things Considered" and "Weekend Edition." These programs are chiefly supported by nonprofit arms of regressive transnational corporations. These include fossil fuel giants, which oppose any effective efforts to combat climate change, and Walmart, infamous for its low wage, anti-labor policies. NPR has also been a recipient of grants from giant agribusiness firms (ADM) that displace small, sustainable family farms with factory monocultures worldwide, reducing farmers to peons, polluting ground water with chemicals, and drastically reducing bee populations.
NPR reports only the uncritical party line of the corporate-political establishment. Human rights and labor movements, wealth inequality and poverty issues, as well as US engagement in perpetual war in quest of world domination are topics avoided, twisted or watered down in keeping with corporate agenda.
The above NPR news programs are also extremely expensive and redundant. "All Things Considered" is played simultaneously on KMUN/KTCB and KCPB at 5pm, giving the listener no choice. NPR's "news" programs, morning and evening, are fully available on the Oregon Coast through KOPB at 89.7 FM for anyone caring to listen.
To save a great deal of money, always relevant in a listener-sponsored, nonprofit radio station, as well as to provide a genuine alternative to corporate vetted programming, we suggest that the Tillicum Foundation replace KMUN/KTCB world and national news programming with one of the following programs:
