The House just rushed through a bill that would ban the TikTok social media platform unless it divests itself from its Chinese ownership, which it's unclear if it will be able to do. TikTok is one of the most popular social media apps in the world, and nearly half of American social media users use the app at least once a month.
While the GOP says that they're concerned about the effect the app has on its users (yeah, right) and vague, paranoid national security concerns about China, we all know that they're entirely insincere — especially since they've never pushed for, say, a Facebook ban after Russia used Facebook to interfere in the 2016 election!
Stop the TikTok ban!
What the GOP really fears is the Biden campaign being able to conduct voter outreach and mobilization on TikTok, which is one of the best ways to connect with young voters. It's a naked attempt to muzzle free speech and boost Trump's chances of getting back into the White House.
Their choice to single out TikTok and leave the other social media networks alone makes it obvious what this is REALLY all about. Tell your Senator to vote NO on the TikTok ban!
