Moose was a 3 month old puppy who was tortured for months by Mikah Johnson before he was brutally beaten to death. Johnson was sentenced for two felony counts of animal torture on Nov. 4, 2016 and was ordered only 1 year in county jail and 36 months of probation with no contact with animals or people under 18. While this is the harshest sentence Utah has ever doled out for animal abuse, this is not enough. Johnson plans to have the felonies reduced to misdemeanors once he completes probation so he can become a fighter pilot in the military. We vehemently oppose this and believe Johnson should have to live as a convicted felon for at least 10 years before reducing the felonies to misdemeanors. In addition, we feel that someone as unstable as Johnson has no business being in the military.
