Cruelty on the Basketball Court - Donkey Ball
Donkeys are sensitive, intelligent animals who deserve our protection, kindness, and respect. In Donkey Ball games, donkeys are often dragged, kicked, and punched by people who have little experience in handling these intelligent animals. This teaches our children that cruelty to animals is acceptable and amusing.
The donkeys are brought into loud, stressful environments, and they can and have harmed humans out of fear and pain. This is a serious liability issue for the school. There are several cases in which participants have been injured, sued the hosts of these events, and won judgments of over $100,000.
There are many fun, creative ways for schools to raise money without traumatizing animals and putting the school in a situation in which it could be liable for injuries.
We, the undersigned, request that you cancel the March 30 Donkey Ball game at Arlington Memorial High School.
Donkeys are intelligent, sensitive, social animals with an inquisitive, friendly nature. In these games, the donkeys are often dragged, kicked, and punched by people who have little experience in handling these sensitive animals. This is inherently callous, and teaches our children that cruelty to animals is acceptable and amusing.
These games can also lead to unpredictable behavior. Being in loud, stressful environments can result in the donkeys harming the human participants out of fear and pain. This is a serious liability issue, and there are several cases in which participants have sued the hosts of these events, winning judgments of over $100,000.
There are many fun, creative ways for schools to raise money without traumatizing animals and increasing the liability for the school. We ask that you consider an alternative. Thank you for your consideration.
