Montreal: We Support Banning Bottled Water
Montreal has recently announced a plan to ban plastic bags by 2018, which is a wonderful step forward for the Canadian city. The next plastic product the city has their eyes on is plastic water bottles.
Plastic water bottles are the cause of many environmental problems, including increased landfill needs, plastic ending up in the oceans and waterways and pumping of water from drought-ridden areas by major corporations.
Montreal is taking all this into consideration and has hinted that they will ban bottled water in the city, a first for Canada and a major step for the reduction of waste in the country. The bottled water industry, however, is taking these hints very seriously and has hired lobbyists to persuade Mayor Coderre to not go through with the ban.
Sign today to let Mayor Coderre know that a bottled water ban is an important and necessary step for the environment. By signing today you are supporting Montreal's leadership in the environmental movement.
Dear Mr Denis Coderre,
As a person who cares deeply for the environment I commend your decision to ban plastic bags in the city by 2018. I am writing today to encourage you to follow through with your idea to ban bottled water in the city as well.
I know that industry pressure can be high but I know that you, like the people in San Francisco, understand the high cost of bottled water on the environment. I urge you to ignore the industry lobbyists and to continue to consider the real costs of bottled water on the environment.
