The Ili Pika was discovered in 1983 by Li Weidong. Its population has significantly declined, dropping 70% within 15 years. Though the exact causes of the drop in Ili Pika population are not known, it is speculated that an increase in grazing pressure and global atmospheric pollution resulting in climate change play a significant role.
According to a 1990s estimate by the IUCN Red List, only 2,000 of them are left in the wild.
Something needs to be done about this while these animals still have a chance. The fact that only 29 of them have even been spotted in the wild in 30 years should tell you that it is vital that we do something now. While China is working hard to battle its pollution, I fear it will not be quick enough to be able to save this creature, among others.
So, please. Sign this petition and help the Ili Pika survive.
To Whom it May Concern,
We are asking that you establish some sort of conservation plan for the Ili Pika. According to a 1990s estimate by the IUCN Red List, only 2,000 Ili Pikas are left in the wild. Their numbers are dropping considerably, having dropped 70% in 15 years. These creatures need our help now, before the pollution, among many other factors, make them extinct completely.
Please help these animals.
Thank you.
