Stop dynamite and Cyanide fishing in Sabah Malaysia
Blast fishing or dynamite fishing is the practice of using explosives to stun or kill schools of fish for easy collection. This often illegal practice can be extremely destructive to the surrounding ecosystem, as the explosion often destroys the underlying habitat (such as coral reefs) that supports the fish.[1] The frequently improvised nature of the explosives used also means danger for the fishermen as well, with accidents and injuries.
We implore the Malaysian Government to once and for all to put an end to Dynamite and cyanide fishing in their country and especially in Borneo Sabah area.
It was very distressing as a diver to not only hear explosions while diving but also to see dead and dying fish on the reefs. We witnessed this both at Sipadan Mabul and at Kapali this September. What a waste of living creatures. Once these reefs are destroyed you will have no tourism or fish to feed your people. Please Please we beg you to STOP these wasteful and Barbaric practices.
